Opening of the Museum of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in roundabout gallery of the Church of Transfiguration of Our Savior (Spasso-Preobragenskaya Church) took place at Easter on the 19th of April, 1998 and went down in history as restoration of the national sacred site.
Unique museum exposition in Moscow is located in the Temple gallery. Materials on the history of the Temple creation in commemoration of victory in the Patriotic war of 1812 and the monument’s role and significance for Russia is a staple of the exposition. Such authentic artifacts as the Cathedral’s foundation board of 1839 miraculously survived after the explosion, fragments of memorial stones with the War heros’ names, monumental, fine and applied art works are of particular interest.
A separate section is devoted to the history of the Cathedral’s construction, destruction and restoration. In addition, creative works of modern artists of Moscow and Moscow region, who continue traditions of orthodox art in our day are also exhibited.
